They are going to move into their new coop/pen tonight at bedtime. They have been free range chickens since I got them, so its time they settle down. None of my chickens are laying right now. I dont know why!!!

ahhhh....Oui Oui madamoiselle! (sp?...sorry) ........but their favorite phrase they know in French goes something like this....."ferme le bush Mama!" ..........again apologies for the spelling...

I'm sure they know more but this is the only one I ever hear from them....they always have the last words as I walk away.

thanks for the compliments everyone! I am lucky to live fairly close to Pinkchick, and even though I knew nothing when I got my first marans, I stumbled across her, and feel I have a good start! I am now waiting for her to have more girls for me!!!

Finally got power back what a storm.. 36 hours no power....!

I think I will pass on commenting on the ethics of toe punches..(Really can not be worse than people getting pierced ears or other parts...)...

I will say I am happy the Smiths use them with the Ameraucana chicks they sell.. When it came time for me to select my keeper Cockerel.. I wrote the Smiths and got detailed history about the pen the chicks came from... Wow what a resource.. I consider it valuable info for the individual with breeding in mind..

Here is another interesting little tid bit...... When I have pullets starting to lay I put a golf ball in the nest box or a hand turned wooden egg.. (Dark brown)

The Marans all use the nest box with the brown wooden egg not with the white golf balls... I just thought that was interesting..

I have about 10 people that want eggs, and they are not giving them up!!! I havent had 1 egg from them for about 5 weeks! I have quit looking for them!
