Sorry over here we call cuckoo marans speckled marans in some places i completely forgot. i cant post a pic now as its half 10 at night but i will post a pic straight away in the morning. Do any of your marans have feathered legs?

Oh, ok, that makes sense. Cuckoos do look sort of speckled.

Hello group! Has anyone ever seen "whiskers" on their marans? They are growing right along side the normal feathers but not attached to them or part of them. These are on the upper thigh feathering of 1 one of my Black Copper hens (I have 3 total). The marans are a small part of my backyard flock that I keep for eggs & their company - not for show or breeding - but I am interested in SOP for them. Any info would be great. Thanks.

I thought you meant splash when you said speckled. All our Marans (black copper, blue copper, splash, and a blue birchen/cuckoo) have feathered shanks and toes.

I need some input from a maran group. I hatched out 2 babies 2 days apart. The larger one was born first, has yellow comb and copper around the neck. The second is smaller, has the red comb and wattles no copper all black. Lets hear your opinions, 1 hen 1 roo? And are Marans hard to hatch?







I started with 8. I had 2 hatch and 1 pipped and didn't make it. This was my 2nd attempt at hatching. I had a good hatch with my CCLegbars.

looks like 2 cockerels to me.
