One thing to keep in mind is, your rooster is 50% of your flock genetics. If you have 10 hens and 1 rooster, each hen is only contributing 5% of the genetics to the next generation, and the rooster 50%.
Marans purists may disagree, but there is something beautiful about that bird. I love the body shape and color. If it were a hen and laid colored eggs, I would love to have it in a EE pen

Don, I agreed with your point, and that's why I quit replying. I enjoy your posts more than almost anyone else's on the forum. I'm not educated enough to debate the breed, so usually I just lurk and read, but I always pay special attention to your posts. I think the dry, no-nonsense attitude just makes it all the more interestingI am very close to removing myself from the Forum and let the newer people answer the Questions being asked here.
