Oh my

Is it just me, or does this roo look more Wheaten than BCM to anyone else?? Hard to tell with it hiding his wing behind the hen.

Well, it sure helps if you can see the wing triangle, but this roo has some of the other attributes of a Wheaten. Light legs, lighter hackle/saddle colors, looks like a light or white ear, the tip of the beak looks white, and the belly fluff looks greyish. I'd be real curious to see the whole bird and the chicks!

Also notice, the hen is clean shanked. . . But, yes, that cockerel is pretty darn light. That's what I call a straw-colored hackle.

Now just imagine egg color.

Even if it is good now, I bet it will be ruined within a year.

Uh Illia.. that is just an example.. all of us that breed know that there are nuances... Also the write up states that the birds are feather legged though the picture doesn't show that clearly... I am thinking this is an Example they just cut off somewhere... Of course they are hatchery birds and likely crosses at they state that they are FAST GROWING... cmon.... not mine!!!!

Thanks to everyone on this thread I now know what to look for and as bad as some of the chicks I've hatched out I agree with Illia hatchery stock will not be close to the SOP poor Marans they have enough problems and this is only going to cause more and I hardly think the eggs will be that dark as my hatchery Cuckoos are barely darker than my Dels.....Geebs the Goldens I got with your enabling are big fast the roo is over 7 1/2 lbs he was hatched in June.....though many are slow bloomers 'cause some I thought were small have really filled out lately.
