Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Just wanted to report that my 2 pair juvenile BCM's with sneezes/wheezing, from shipping stress, are doing a lot better today. I have been giving them Gallimycin in their water and finally it is working! The one Hen with the worst of it, sounded a bit like DarthVader yesterday. I was soooo worried about her as she seemed to be getting worse, but this morning she sounds great. All are eating well, and love their cranberries! The larger of the 2 roos is even crowing, they are only 8wks!
After Christmas day I will take some photos.

More than a few days, but before New Years Eve. I had been saving eggs for the New Year's hatch, but decided not to when the power company sent a letter about a planned power outage. When she went broodie, I gave her the eggs, but really didn't think she would be such a die-hard.

My husband & I went out to do some bathroom remodeling shopping too ( He is so NOT into Christmas shopping) & man was the traffic something else. That was in the middle of the day on a week day no less.................. When we got home our daughter couldn't believe we were gone so long ( I did tell you he is NOT into shopping right?...LOL) & whined at us...............LOL. I was pleasantly surprised at his patience with all the other drivers. I am soooooooooooooooo done with my shopping but can never resist picking up yet another stocking stuffer or too if I happen to find myself out...........LOL
Merry Christmas to all of you out there. Tonight is our big family/friends feast. Tomorrow will be waaaaaaaaaay calm.

Do you have a way make seperate quarters for her where she is sitting? To keep others away from her? I wouldn't suggest moving her so close to hatch as it may make her upset and we can't have her off those eggs. Provided she stays on those eggs and sees this through those babies should be just fine under Mamma.

eta: when I have a broody, I always turn on an incubator when it gets close just in case it is needed. I had a broody bantam EE that lost interest as soon as the eggs pipped. 2 died before I could get them and the 3rd was left peeping and cold, I brought it in and stuffed it in the bator....Priscilla is her name and she now lives at my bestfriends house.

I can move the nest boxes she's sitting in to a pen by herself right next to where she is now. Do you think that would upset her too much?

I wish I could help Kristie, but I'm kind of new to this high tech hatching & waiting on my new incubator & hatching eggs to give it a try myself. My past experience has been with a styro incubator with auto turn but no hydrometer at all. It was just kind of "you make it or you don't". I did keep close watch on the temp though. I have learned so much since my last hatch & am a daily reader on this thread. I can't wait to try again.
Good luck with those eggies. I hpe they do exceptionally well for you.
