The chick in the first photo....I'd bet $5 on red 13...all the way home it's a cockerel and he's blue something.
The second chick....I would say is also a cockerel and is e+ (wild type), pg (partridge)...black breasted red males and salmon breasted females as adults (Golden Salmon).

Does the lighter chick in the first photo have a spot on its head?

Yes, one tiny little spot! How did you know??

He looks very similar to my very light golden cuckoo male did when he was little. There can be a great variation in the golden cuckoo males ranging from very light to dark gold patterns. I am not an expert on them but this is what I have read on various web sites. I have 3 GC males from 2 different breeders and there is differences in how they look. I think my light one is very pretty now even though he may not be what the eventual standard may call for

I got him from nivtup as an egg

I sure hope mine is a gold cockerel, that is what I was hoping for.

Your rooster is very pretty, thanks for sharing. Is there somewhere online to learn more about gold cuckoos? So the pullets, will they start out looking black barred then get the gold color on their head and neck as they feather out?

No hentymes they don't... They are born a pretty brownish gold color with a spot on their head and are able to be sexed at birth "supposidly" but it isn't a standing rule as I have been duped with ones colored right in the center of the judgement... They don't look like barred rocks as the standard cuckoos do. I have had experience with them though limited. I have access to them, just no proportional real estate!!!!

This is a link to a picture... the males are the lighter ones and the females are the darker.

Do golden cuckoos have that kind of coloring and pattern on the wings when they are young? This is identical to my Welsummers, partridge duckwing.....I don't know alot about cuckoos so fill me in please.

Here is a photo (not a very good photo though) of a male and female golden cuckoo that I hatched as eggs from pasofinofarms. I also have a darker golden cuckoo female and a lighter male from pasofino as well. When the golden cuckoos start feathering out they should pretty much have the coloring that they will get as adults but the gold can get a richer color when fully mature.
ETA: I think Melissa's (pasofinofarms) golden cuckoo are from Braden lines but can't remember...will have to find my old notes. I know she told me once lol.

OK, I am so relating to this - --
the two I helped out last were COCKERELS and the two I didn't help out were COCKERELS too!

Give yourself a few weeks, Debbi, and then do it AGAIN

That's what I am doing. I planning to set some eggs sometime this week.
I bought my egg turner yesterday . . . . . . I am NOT going to turn the eggs by hand again !
