No not that one......her twin. It took a while to sink in and I believe I am handling it very well considering but it was meant to happen for a reason and yes it's all about dem eggies. Thanks!

I think today I got 10 more gray hairs....for crying out loud at this rate I'll be completely gray before I'm 39.....which is creeping up very very fast, like as in on Friday.

Don~ I can say that I do not use the color chart except for determining whether or not an egg is a 4. If they are a 4 or anything more than that I keep the bird that lays it...BUT.....I look for all things considered in a breeder not just egg color. This slows the process down considerably but is the only way I have found to keep a sort of even keel in breeding and not losing everything such as type and variety color and patterns. I will gladly accept a #4 egg because it means that they are still a Marans but the norm here for my birds runs between a 4-6 with the occassional darker egg but I have never never never had an 8 or 9. I will take the slow road anyday so I don't lose everything. Breeding birds is like a marriage it takes work no matter what we started out with if we are determined to make it work.

X2 Pink, I love your comment about like a marriage, determined to make it work!

I will have my 4th grandchild the end of February, God willing.

As I've said all the time, not hard to wish for the best of both worlds; good egg color and conformation! Glad you guys are starting to get it, it sure gives me hope that I was not wishing for something that would never be!!

On a sadder note; can someone please give me an easy (easier for the chick and me) way to cull a 4 day old chick?

The little splash is not getting any better, I'm quite sure it's a dislocated femur, and she seems to be in pain. Gees, I'm getting soft in my old age...
