This one is destined for the Freezer because he has side spikes on the comb. The blue color is better on this generation. He is my favorite and he is going to be dinner one night. I WANT MORE BLUES

Tomatoes, tomatillos, potatoes, and eggplants are part of the Solanaceae aka The nightshade family which contains many species with poisonous alkaloids, including tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum), deadly nightshade (Atropa belladonna), mandrake (Mandragora officinarum) and Datura and Brugmansia (which I hybridize and have tons in my yard). Some of the toxic alkaloids for this group can include nicotine, atropine (used as a heart medication for bradycardia and to dilate pupils), hyoscyamine, scopolamine (used in pharmaceuticals for motion sickness) and solanine.
I grow tomato, peppers, eggplants, and brugmansia& datura in my yard and have never had any problems with the chickens eating them while freeranging. They don't seem to like the taste. They will eat the actual tomatoes and peppers. I leave my greenhouse door open when its hot and they could go in there and eat all the brugmansia they wanted but they don't.

I know people who have parrots that have eaten brugmansia seed and my own yellow nape once got into the datura seed and ate some. Didn't bother him a bit and I have seen wild birds eat it. So I don't know if it really affects birds as much as I've heard. I wouldn't go giving it to them on purpose though.

Here is Remmi... THis year she has more black than she had last year... She is a beautiful chicken that lays beautiful little golf balls that are always a 5 or better.... I love this hen for her generous nature and look at that cute comb... and those eyes... Gotta love this girl!!!

thanks flgardengirl!!! She lays a very roundy egg that is lavender in color unless you get it wet and then it is a nice dark 5 or 6... She is a steady layer. and usually pretty predictable... I have her locked down now!!!! I hope her legs are okay.. They are not looking right... The color is "off".

Ohhh....I was also going to say that I believe my little Charmin is trying to be broody. She's so cute...sitting on nothing and trilling away like she is in some sort of trance. We will see if she is determined, if she is, she's getting eggs!
