Great......now tose eggs are what I am looking for. Good for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who layed them BCMs I am assuming?????????? What line & how long did you have to breed them to get that color?

Well, folks...I just got home from meeting Pinkchick. ( And yes, she is a little more than 5 miles from me. 23.5 to be exact!)
I might be new to this site and relatively new to Marans chickens but I feel like I have a leg up on everybody else because I live so close to Pinkchick!
Boy, she sure has some pretty birds up there in her neck o' the woods. Especially the roo known as Gnarls (I think that is his name). He has the most awesome blue breast feathers! I used to think that what I wanted were Black Copper Marans, but now I know that what I really want are the blues.
Thank you for showing me around this morning, Kim. I can assure you that you have not seen the last of me!

Yeee gads! Wind is blowing 40mph, temperature is dropping and snow is on it's way. Oh, lucky us! Sure wish I had my cookie tin water heaters finished. I better eat some more cookies out of those tins.

I just bought a gallon of apple cider vinegar. Do any of you guys use this regularly? I've heard a lot of people swear by it. If you do, what is your routine?

I'm in a bit of a quandry. I LOVE my BCM's, but I really don't like all these blood spots in the eggs. I don't feel like I can sell any of them if they are that way. Do all the other varieties of marans have blood spots? Is it just the BCM's? Is it just the ones that lay the darkest eggs? Dark eggs is what I initially got them for. Is there any way to get rid of the spots? I don't use artificial lights and I think things are pretty calm in the coop. None of my other breeds have blood spots.

I hope it's something I can get rid of.... I have no idea how you would go trying to breed it out!

I just cracked open 36 marans eggs today. They got really muddy yesterday and today so I fed them to the dog. I made sure to check for meat spots. I only saw two eggs with them and they were from very small pullet eggs. I don't use lights.

Ivywoods - my Cuckoo Marans eggs do not have meat spots/blood spots (whatever the correct term is). I have only experienced them in other breeds when the pullet first starts to lay.

Don't ya just love that Kansas wind??? Going to blow us all right into the next state!

I'm just checking in to say "hello". It's been awhile since I've been around. I started with cuckoo marans about 6 years ago and this past year I got some really nice eggs. I'm currently working on getting good roos. I would love to get some blues. i love the blue color! If I can remember how to post pictures,I'll do that later on.
