that IS cold! Its been hitting low teens at night here, but about 30 or so most of the last few days, but hoping for warmer soon! I'm at 1/2 day for the incubator, so haven't reached the boring stage yet, but not far behind you!

Stay warm!

We have sunshine so that helps a little... we have been mid 20's and lower this past week. We are hoping that we start getting above freezing durning the day so we can collect sap from our maple trees.

Send the warmer weather this way will ya!!

Morning Vicki!

Sounds like you will be busy for sure! That tanky Splash Copper hen you posted has to be the penultimate favorite for me next to Luella. She sure is hefty and beautiful!

I have that Blue-Cpr hen coming this weekend from my bestfriend, along with a Barnevelder rooster for making more Blue Laced Barnie layers. This hen is built just like my large Blue Copper gal and that chunky big Splash gal that I borrowed back, crossing them over either Lil' Bill or Will is sure to give me some more size. I'm thinking I am going to cross them (the splash and the blue) to Lil' Bill as I have eggs in the 'bator from Will and the borrowed splash right now. The blue gal coming needs work on leg feathering but has some so I can start with that.

2 more chickies just hatched and I still have 1 more pip and 2 eggs that haven't done anything.

All of the chicks are blue. :love
So what does this mean for being able to determine my roos color? Is he black or is he blue? Black huh?
The eggs in there were from Will crossed over a Splash Copper and Will crossed over a Blue Copper. All chicks are basically the same shade of blue which is a darker blue.
I almost expected a black chick to come from the Blue Copper and Will, but not one. If I would have gotten a Splash baby anywhere it would have told the whole story....but all blue. What are the chances that all of the eggs from the Blue Copper hen would have hatched blue?
Never had just an all blue hatch before, so I am kinda like....uhhhh!?!? .

Donna~
What's going on in your bator?

Same to you Don......how's the hatch going?
BTW.... I fixed up my hatching tray with the hardware cloth dividers like you have in yours and I love it! Works GREAT!

My broody Splash Copper hen, Darryl, is happily sitting on 2 goose eggs. :D

Glancing back through the thread I have to say I saw some very nice eggies posted from several folks!

Way to go Marans lovers! Beautiful eggs!

Hi! I was wondering if anyone has laying age pullets for sale in the central Texas area? Either blue or black copper is fine. I have looked in the buy/sell/trade area and didn't see anything. I have looked on CL at EVERY area in Texas that they list and can only find eggs and chicks. There are some 13 week olds in my area but would really like some that are laying now. I may even be willing to have them shipped but I know that is expensive. Right now I am just buying eggs localy and hatching them but that is expensive, I could make a lot more money if I had some myself. Please let me know if you can help me. Thanks!

Well I'm pretty excited. Seems like my newly laying Black Copper Maran Pullet is laying every other day. Still need to get her to lay in the next box and not on the poop board. But on a positive note her eggs are getting darker. Here's her 3rd egg. Along with some other for comparison.
