Hey Maran lovers... Can I get some help? I just got my babies in, and I split an order with a friend... we both got barrd plymoth rocks, but I got 3 silver cuckoo maran. I can't tell them apart! Please give me any identifying marks so she doesnt take my babies!

I notice some have a white tip to their beeks, while others beaks are darker.

Any advise is truely appreciated!

the Marans should have light gray legs and feet. the rock will have yellow. Also if you are lucky the marans should have feathers on their leggs and outer toe; no feathers on the leggs of the rocks.

i see no feathers on any legs... and the coloring is kinda the same on the legs/feet too! Do I need to wait a few days to tell?

Vicki~ How's the hatch going? Did you and Debbi get your goodies in the mail?

I had a 100% hatch with the eggs froheam the Betty-z and I will tell you .....boy howdy have I got some little redheads going on! Good thing these babies are for layers only, but since I crossed them with Lil' Bill I will be able to watch them for certain things. Got some really nice marked ones in there too. I might mark them and see what they do just for giggles.

Have 1 baby out of the Splash Copper hen I borrowed back from BFF and a couple more pipping, only set 6 of her eggs so we will see.

Oh and two of the three Blue Copper chicks you asked me to mark and watch are cockerels. Nice clean combs too. I see 4 points on one and 5 on the other. YAY!

Some lines of Cuckoo Marans have clean legs, sorry forgot to mention that.

My most recent hatch just finished, 18 out of 19 from 4 different pairings, all BCM.  I hope your hatch goes as well!!!

Sounds good on a photo, that will make it easier! And thanks for the addy, I'll get them out tomorrow hopefully. I can send them regular mail. Just let me know if there was anything else you wanted to try before then so I can get it to you!
