I would appreciate this too. I'm also new to marans. I have two blue copper marans from wade jeane lines with a new, pretty nice Black Copper Marans rooster and I spent some money from the same BYC member on nicely dark eggs and at the same time, hatched very dark eggs from my partner in a project for the darkest egg we can. I now have 10, 5 week old BCM and 2 OE from my Blue Copper Marans and my Ameraucana and 7 more in the incubator now who are from my Blues and the new BCM roo. I hope I get a Blue Copper marans so I can breed for Splash!

Thanks for taking the time to educate us.

I have a stupid question, but, where can you get a copy of the egg numbering scale? On the SOP it states that they must lay at least a four. And I read numbers on here. Just trying to get the basics down as the chicks grow. I am going to work with birchen marans to the best of my ability. I have five that hatched from really big and dark eggs, which was a surprise to me given what I have read about problems with the birchen marans egg color, and I have seven that came from GFF that are two and three weeks old. I ended up with four boys out of he first batch, one of which is a very pretty blue boy, pretty lacing, and the silver is already starting to come in on saddle and hackles. Too bad I didn't want any blues, lol. So, yeah, where do you get that color chart?
