. Here is another hen I have she is very light in color I don't know what the best color is I started getting eggs from mine a week ago very small dark colored eggs
. Here is one of the ones I have got we get two about every two or three days my hen are not laying very well I live in georgia how is it where you are living
Im in Oklahoma, the weather is pretty nice right now. I have 4 that are laying age, 1 blue and 3 Cuckoos, only my blue is laying right now and she's layed 5 in 8 days. My Cuckoos are molting I think.
I posted this over on the Breeders thred too. If Im not suppose to do this sorry. Im new. So I'm looking at getting some Marans. I'm not to concerned about getting the best but would like some decent birds. I don't really want to pay an arm and a leg either. I spoke to the owner who seems very nice and honest. He told me what he's working on, and what he's having problems with. He said that at the stage he is at with his birds he is concentrating more on breeding type than egg color. He did say his egg color is getting a little better. Also that he tries to keep in contact with his customers to help them and ask for feedback so he can make them better. He did say if he offers any chicks it wouldnt happen until spring. He recommended this site to help me learn. Has anyone had any positive or negative exp with Breeder or The Broad St. Farm? His name is Wayne and he is in Michigan. Any advice?
Hello. I have just got started with a back yard flock of marans because I love the color of the eggs and the beauty of the eggs. I have two 10week olds that the sex is still a mystery to me any options welcome. Also I have more 5 week olds how do you tell?
Both look like cockerels to me. For being 10 weeks old they both have a lot of color and size to their combs and waddles. Here are 2 of my 10 week olds. Im pretty sure one is a boy and the other is a girl.
I'm a newby with twelve chicks. Three are BCMs I got from A BYC member who hatched eggs she got from the Garry Farm.
I've been feeling confident that I had two boys and a girl, as one very quickly grew pretty tail feathers and long wing feathers while the other two are only now sprouting tails and still have much shorter wings. Also, the ones I assume are boys have black feathers whilst my assumed girl is entirely gray.
I know they're young but what do you think? These were taken when the chicks were not quite three weeks. The alleged female is the last photo.
And here they are at nearly five weeks:
Alleged roo 1
same guy
alleged roo 2
same guy
alleged hen - no black feathers at all. (weird?)
same girl, nice comb and waddle. Also bigger than the boys, right from the start.
boy left, girl right. If you look closely at girl, a tiny speck of copper coloring on back of head. Or else someone pooped on her...
