Does anyone know where I can purchase fertilized hatching Wheaton Marans and Birchen Marans eggs to hatch in my incubator?

I ordered a couple Cuckoo Marans from a Hatchery last summer, and the one I kept just started laying and is laying extra-jumbo eggs (not over-exaggerating). Is this normal for quality stock, or has the hatchery just crossed different breeds and called the resulting hybrid a Maran?

If it's normal for them to lay such large eggs, I'd like to get a hold of a breeder where I could order eggs or chicks. Color doesn't matter, although mother likes the French Copper variety. I'm in Iowa and would prefer not to have eggs shipped but would consider shipping chicks if they were from a stellar breeder. I'm not interested in breeding, I have too many projects going right now LOL.

Also a little side note, I see some calling the breed Maran and others Marans, is it personal preference or is there a correct term?

I would venture a guess that if they are from a hatchery, they are not quality stock. You really need to go through a breeder who has been breeding them for awhile in order to get some exhibition quality birds. They often will lay extremely large eggs when they are first starting to lay - they should get to a normal size soon.

In the U.S., they are simply "Marans" (always with an "s", whether you're referring to one or more than one), not "French Marans."

I was born & raised in Iowa - it's great to see more Iowa peeps on here!

I would think so as well. I run into purity problems all the time with my Ameraucanas.
Do you know of any breeders in Iowa, any variety? Like I said, I have way too many breed projects going on to start another, but chocolate eggs are always nice .

I sold quite a large order to a gentleman in Iowa last year or year before, and I know he got a large order from my breeding partner, as well. I'll look him up & PM you his contact info.
