The BC Marans, like many breeds, is a work in progress. It has suffered greatly because of recent popularity. This has lead to some people simply breeding any birds they get an selling the eggs.
However, the best way to improve the breed is to increase the number of serious and dedicated breeders. True, not everyone on BYC is a serious breeder, and that's OK. Some people just want pretty eggs. But, in general, I think the population on BYC cares a bit more than your average group, and sharing eggs with fellow BYCers is one way to increase the numbers or breeders.
I know my birds aren't perfect. I've posted to this thread about them. My rooster's pretty good, and most of my hens are, too. And when I sell eggs, I'll tell you upfront about the imperfections. My eggs are medium dark, not going to get any 9s on the color chart. And I do hatch out some mossy chicks. But I get some good ones, too.
As anyone who hatches many eggs knows, not every chick is going to be show quality, even form the best show birds out there. When you choose hatching eggs, you must accept this. Yes, you can help yourself out by looking at the parent birds, but there is still some risk. If you want to be guarenteed a bird that meets the standard, the ONLY way to do it is to buy adult birds that you personally inspect.
Just MHO.
