Hi Bev!

How are you and things going on the farm? Are you having predation issues still? I hope that has come to a screeching halt for you.
Have you received a photo of that solid blue male you were talking about?

If anyone would like to see what a side sprig looks like this male has two on the lower part of the comb.

Huh, I never noticed before you pointed that out!
Frank was suppose to be a pullet... he came from a bin at our local feed store, so he wasn't anything special. He was a good rooster though.
The family we rehomed him to said he made a great stew too.

Do you know why then that my Marans were DQ'd for having feathered shanks? If the proposed American Standard is as close to the French Standard as you could get, then wouldn't they need to have feathered shanks? These were your birds I was showing Bev and I know they meet the requirements!

This is a new breed of chicken on the American show scene and most Judge in USA have no idea of what a Marans should look like. They will have to be educated just like the balance of us.

6 to 8 hours i guess,,,,,,, and yes that darn recessive pti-/pti-1 feather shank inhibitor gene hideing buncha darn kick in the head lol lol ....i have no idea what i just said
but easy to fix and this is long term and i have all the birds marked with leg bands

This is why, a few pages back, I suggested that everyone showing their birds, take many copies of the proposed standard of the breed, and display it in front of the bird's cage. "Take one ~ Free!" Learn about the breed! If a judge sees that, they may actually read it and learn what a Marans is supposed to look like!

Most shows would not let you leave info. in front of the Marans. They will let you have a Marans table setup with literature. I would suggest very politely to ask the people running the show to give the judge doing the Marans a copy of the Marans Standard. Very very politely.
