I have a question: On the birds that are born from black coppers that are completely (visually) black, does this mean they will still have some copper in thier genes? Or will they be genetically black birds like the BBS blacks?
I recently obtained a solid black hen that came from black copper parents. I am thinking of putting her in with my blk/split lav orps to experiment. I am wondering if I would have a chance of the copper leaking through?
If they came from Black Copper parents they could very well have the gene hiding in there and yes they can pass it on to offspring. Test mating may help you determine this. I am also going to intro lav to an all black Marans pullet no signs of copper, but with the lav gene it should not leak as lavender is not a leaky gene and it covers everything. Blue however does not.
