Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Yes they are very hard to photograph accurately.
Way past my bed time and I may start not making sense even more than I already do very soon.

Please everyone and anyone feel free to give your comments on this egg...I do not mind at all or I wouldn't have posted it. It's good to see things from others eyes.

You'know, when a Marans gives that extra blumen on the egg to make it a nice lilac color. . .

I'm pretty sure, too, that it came from a Wheaten pullet.

Gezzzzz, been gone a few days and I miss all the excitement! I have tons of show birds here ..... somewhere under all that mossiness.

One day, I think I will show some of my birds. Yes, I think I will (maybe). Don't know if my Marans will make it or not, but I may have some others that might. If I get lucky enough to have show worthy Marans, I would like to give it try though.

O my gosh Kathy.. I kept a bird born brown... just for you.... It is proper colored...No joke.. can't tell he was brown at all!!!! super cool... This was the first time I kept a brownie male to adulthood... I had kept the females to see what they turn into......Black most of the time, but not always. I will have to get pix for you... I had him posted a looooong time ago as a baby.

Next month is the show in Stevenson Wa... I will have to look up the exact date...Oct 16th I think. It is called the Northwest Classic I think

Thanks Pink for all the work with the egg photo. . . So we compromise and call that color a 5. That is what my girls lay, Consistently. I wish it was DARKER and I hope my roo will help me out with that. . . . NONE of my other birds have the personality of my marans. They have just started back laying in the last couple of days. The summer took my girls out BIG time. I was getting 1 egg per 4 girls every day.

They weren't panting as much as the leghorns, but they did quit laying.

Kathy - - - nice to see you finally show up. Where you been girl ? ? ?

Illia - congrats on the egg.

Coq-au-vin - - I worry about the avain flu virus when I attend shows. . . . How crazy is that ? ? ?
HOWEVER, I can't stay away either . . .

How about this wry tailed mossy mess .....

Of course he is the nicest in size (if you like to eat Marans). He will make a nice Sunday dinner one day.
