Wynette, We must be drinking the same coffee, that was the exact question that popped up in my mind too!

It speaks of the internal genetics of the bird...melanisers and other factors.

Why would there be a duduction for wry tail??? It is because it doesn't meet the proposed standard of excellence by which we are measuring... correct me if I am wrong here... If they are for show..they need to be the most excellent example of the breed.

it is all the same thing.... It is a gene that drives all of these factors simultaneously... That is why it is important to pay attention to the whole bird (after conformation is established)... It is a delicate balance... Too much color not enough color.. Go back and look at the eye color on the too black shiny beetle green birds.. what color are the shanks and the eyes.

See how the black covers everything... The color is there but it is hidden under all of the black.... (lack of a better explaination)

The wry tail is an APA DQ and has nothing to do with proposed Marans standard and the two different eye color would be an APA DQ and would not be up to the Marans standard. Most faults are covered in Point for deduction.

Snowbird...It was an exaggerated example... If you are judging a bird... you are judging it against the standard for which it was written... etc... Wry tail was an extreme example...(which is why I used it) eye color is only a deduction.. any deduction is reflective of the judging process from the extreme DQ to the small 1 point deduction... It is an example of "a small degree of something greater" which is a deviation from proposed excellence.

she isn't a part of my breeding program... just an example of eye color... (less coffee Don) lol​

Hard to see the beetle in this pic, but all 3 pullets have it. This pic was taken 3 weeks ago, and their eyes have darkened to a deeper orange color now, and all three have a little more coppering in the hackles. All three have basically the same coloring in feathers, shanks, and eyes.
