Very nice looking Wheaten male, the only thing I see is he could have a little more foot feathering. Nice tail angle and good color.

Thanks for the heads up. It would be nice if some of the folks that actually sold eggs/chicks regularly would participate in this and other threads.. Luckily there are good experiences to be had with some breeders.

(I am going to PM you on one breeder.)

Sometimes we just have to put trust and fate to the wind and jump in. For some folks like me, if it weren't for hatching eggs, I would still not have any Marans. Knowing more on the breed now, seeing pics of others birds, and learning new contacts for better birds, helps us all. Wish I could drive down to the corner farm and pick out a perfect trio or two, but that just ain't gonna happen around here!

I know that throw the towel feeling in... This last week, I had a setback. One of my roos that I thought was pretty good developed a problem. He was young, but I had lost his hatching mate, so I was looking at this, as a a deal breaker! But then I thought about two things: 1. That I have more BCM roo's that are coming along nicely. 2. That a dear friend of mine, who is on BYC, told me to never give up easily, that BCM's may take several years to get a good start going on. And that having helped this line of birds and breed close to the proposed standards is a worthy pursuit!

But belive me I was down in the dumps and wanted to throw that towel in. But anything worth having is worth putting some effort into!!!! I do appreciate ALL your comments and input and believe there is so much valuable information on this Marans thread!

So, I went to the index and looked to see what was being posted . . . . I thought maybe something interesting would be out there.

Since I started following this thread, I have learned so much.
Now I see those posts for what is the gender of my chick, should I worm, my roo is crowing, etc. . .
I just can not spend to much time with those quesitons . . .

THIS is the THREAD that I LEARN on. This is the thread where I am challeneged. This is where I hope somebody has posted something - - - anything - - .

Pictures, comments, thoughts, questions. . .I learn something every time. I am even getting where I can recognize a wheaton QUICKLY. . . cinnamon triangle in the wing, light feet, white beak , straw hackles. . .

On that previous question I had - - - -
has anyone else noticed yellow or white feathers on the little BCM chicks producing a mature hen with little to no leg feathering ? ? ? ?

Has anybody had success with the candling of BCM eggs ? ?

Also, somebody said they had the new standards book on order - - - please tell me where to order it ? ? I know I 've asked before, BUT I FORGOT

i wanted to post what i read about presley line of wheaten marans ,,, they did not come from black copper they are sait to have come from a cuckoo sport or better yet hears a copy from the web site of owner (budy henery) who has the presley line of wheten ,,,,,,,,

Eggs imported from an unknown source resulted in the hatch of one male chick. This male was later crossed with a sport colored female produced from the Kellerman Line of Cuckoo Marans

if i am wrong pleaes corect me
