I don't know if Walt noticed my question a few days ago about the shape of the female tail. I know the french want the pointed tail and we all have some of them. The American standard wants a more open tail, which would be more of an inverted U, but not to large. I ask Walt what would be the point deduction if any for the pointed tail female.

I say that we have to start forgetting what the French standard says unless we plan on showing there. Everyone will never be happy with any standard so we might as well start adapting to the American standard if we intend to show .

To All, If you have a copy of the SOP go to page #22 and it will show some of the benefits of having a Wide Back. They show comparrisons between the Narrow Back, short and the wide Back and long length. They show the wide and long back as even having a more open tail . This picture explains the back with and length much better than I can.

I suggest anyone thinking about buying old books look into Morley Jull, Poultry Breeding. He also has several other books. You can also just enter Morley Jull in the Search and find lots on good info. from his writtings.

Pink, The reason I like your Blues is because they all have type and good size and they have size in length of leg. All of these Marans seems to have good full Chest and wide full length Backs. To all you can not put the Marans supposed type on a small , short leg , small and short back birds. If we have to err do it on the large size Frame. A small six pound cock bird will never beat a 9-10 pound cock bird with equal condition. we must remember these are Large Fowl.
