That is easy for most to see when looking at a bird. Just make sure that the wings are not down because of fatigue or heat. That would only be a temporary situation. From the pics I have seen on here, the Marans do not seem to have any particular problem with horizontal wing carriage........other than the occasional male with droopy wings. I am only going by what I have seen here though.

I agree that the Marans Males have really good wing carriage. Also like to ad look at the width of the primary and secondary wing feather, you do not want a narrow feather. If you ever get a good marans that has a little low wing carriage put him in a pen where he has to fly up 4-5-6-feet to get to the roost. Check and make sure the wing secondary feather are nice a wide and look for split and weak wing. I just found one with the primary feathers trying to lineup outside of the secondary feathers. Part of this got wiped out in revision.

Walt,
Glad to hear that doesn't seem to be a problem! How do you weigh in on the "beetle green sheen" in BCM pullets and hens? Fault? Or is it acceptable like the old proposal said?

Wynette, If the proposed standard does not state it is not allowed, it would then revert to APA cutting for defects and it would be acceptable under the APA guidelines.

It is has a lot of speckles and isn't quite as dark as I thought a first egg should be???
This is the girl!
I have the 'athletic' version of BCM....this picture is one of my roosters looking out for my DH so his girl can leap up to grab the Nectarine tree leaves!
I am one of those people you talk about who are quietly watching this thread in hopes to learn valuable information!!
we currently only have 1 Cuckoo Marans but I do like to read the posts and see pictures to learn more about the breed. Oh and try to drool without getting the key board wet!
I find that there is alot of knowledge to learn, thanks.
