Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

YEA ! The marans are on the board . . . Still behind. I set almost twice the number of marans as delawares. TODAY - - I hope to hear a lot more rocking and rolling in the cooler. . .

I gave the darlings two stuff animals for mommies. They actually seemed to like that better than being my themselves

Enough eggs have hatched that I have taken two crates out and laid the remaining bags with eggs in them directly on the wire shelf. This should improve the HEAT circulation to the two remaing crates.

Everything that has hatched so far has done it on the right side of the cooler. Nothing on the left side. . . I will have to look into this more after the hatching has finished. . . .

THIS IS SO MUCH FUN! OMG, I think I need more hatching eggs. . .

Congrats! I can't wait to start hatching again. I imagine that I'll be loading the bator in December sometime. I plan to hatch another round of BCM and the EE and Olive Egger that live with them so I can bring on some more Olive Egg layers.

Good luck on the rest of your hatch!

Wanted to pop in and say hello to everyone.

I have been very busy and haven't been able to post, man o man there are some things that I would like to respond to just don't have the time right now.

First let me say this.......ladies did you know that it is "National Chicken Lady Day?"

(Sorry the calendar only says Chicken Lady Day and Chicken Guys need a National Day too....wonder why it is just Chicken Lady Day?)

Regarding the size of the thread.......I like that fact that it is all right here in one place. Please don't change it!

Congrats Math!
Oh...I don't play by the rules when it comes to hatching but this works for me, I will take the little buggers out with in a very short time after hatch. Sometimes they may be less than 6 hours old. If they are dry, have no issues and upright getting around pretty good I will take them out and put them in the brooder. I have not had any problems. I will however seperate the newest newbies if they are a couple days younger than the others, I have a smaller box that I can sit in the brooder for the late hatchers so the older birds cannot trample them. I don't think that I have ever left a chick in the hatcher for 24 hours, but again this is just me and the way I do it.
