WELCOME!!!!!!!!

If your roos aren't being overly aggressive in the love department I don't see a problem with 1 roo to 5 hens. Your gals would be adequately covered by one male. I have a couple of pens that have 3-4 hens in with one roo, everybody is doing great, but I watch them to make sure the hens are not being over mated. If I see this happening I will add more hens as to divert the roos attention.

Mornin' Pink!!

What do you do if the roo has a favorite woman?? I was just noticing that the other day, and if poor Fuglee could breed (which thank God he can't!), he seems to spend all of his efforts on one woman. Ever had that happen?

Mornin" Ms. Debbi!

Yes I have had that happen. I had 2 hens that were one of my roos favorites, it wasn't his fault either I don't think, they would sqwat for the right breeze if it happened to blow in. If the extra hens didn't divert attentions I removed the hens that were the fav's. I put them back in about a month later and he had forgotten all about them, however, they both still sqwat at every breeze.

I have a few wheatens. Mostly males lol. I am working on building up a decent sized flock. I know there are a few people who used to post here that had wheatens. Berkley Springs and nivtup both used to post about thier wheatens there are probably others but I can't think of them right now lol.

My one poor crippled blue copper that I let freerange (I call him Pookey Bear hehe dh hates that name!) loves this light blue hen. He follows her everywhere and helps her lay her egg, find food, feeds the food to her and takes no treats for himself, basically kisses her blue fuzzy butt all day long lol. There are a few other hens that I let freerange with them but he mostly ignores them. If anything ever happened to her he would probably wither away and die.

" they both still sqwat at every breeze" They are totally hootchies LOL! Have anyone ever noticed, the hens that run away from the rooster, are the ones that the roos really want to mate? (I'm not talking about the ones that have that special little relationship with a certain girl..but in general). I have one wheaten hen named Princess she does not like any roos period. So she always tries to run away from them whichever one I have her in with. So anyways, she is the one they all want. The hens that submit and act like they don't care those same roos will mate them but they will chase Princess around every chance they get.

Oh my! I can hear my Mom's words ringing in my ears with that one! "Make yourself unavailable, and the men will flock you!"
