I'd like to know as well. If anyone has any ideas on what shade of blue please share.

lol....flgarden, I'm beginning to think we may not get an answer to this.

If we don't, I'm just going to go with every shade of blue as being acceptable.

I am organic... No chems in my birds...

All natural lots of good bacteria.. Birds are strong this way. Make my own feed and everything.

IMO pasty butt.. Soy based starter.

I use paper towel the first few days then they are on shavings.. They get grit and whole living sprouts and grains at week 1. They also get dirt and roots at week one along with micro grit..
I am getting cocky, with the successes and health of birds... By no means have I hatched thousands of birds... But I find pure and natural works great if you do it 100%..

Poularde~ Don't go by the comb! I had one come out of the egg with a huge comb that turned out to be my biggest pullet! All of my hatches (ya, all three!

) had color in the shoulders by about 2 1/2 months. Pip started with one red spot on his right shoulder that I would've sworn was blood!

On closer inspection, it was the start of his shoulder coloring. Waiting for some color to come in on my three little roos, but they are only 8 1/2 weeks old. Two have copper hackles, the other has nothing yet, but all three were crowing at 7 weeks so I'm betting they're roos! Pip is now 13 1/2 weeks, and has nice red shoulders, and is now just getting in some long saddle copper feathers. Different lines may mature and color differently. These are all basically Wade Jeane lines. Pics would surely help us determine what you may have.

chasehope, I am sure it is a boy lol. He is even getting little red wattles already. One of his hatchmates, a blue copper has a comb sprouting too. Then there are 2 blue copper ones that have no development, so they are prob girls. I can't wait till he gets old enough to breed. I would love to have a whole flock of copper splashes. He will be copper splash.

pink chick: I hope we find out lol, its been kinda driving me nuts too. I would hate to have to breed tons of each shade of blue and then have to cull them all. Most of mine seem to be either light blues or medium blues (both bbs and blue coppers). I am going to try to get them all towards medium blues with good lacing. I would think that lacing would be important and it doesn't show up that well on the real light blues. Some of the lighter blue coppers can have a pretty dramatic look though with the powder blue and copper coming in.

Illia: Love that pic of your boy. He is soooo handsome. Lucky duck. I hope you get good hatches on your blue wheaten eggs, can't wait to see those babies!

I took pictures today of my little roosters .... They were hatched June 12. It was quite windy, you may notice.

# 4 ..... This is my adult roo, 1 year old last week. From Wynette's, a dark egg. He is as sweet as they come.

Some eggs from Bill's girls and Charmin's eggs. (Charmin's eggs are the smallest ones.) Thought I would toss them in the 'bator. Itchin' to hatch some more babies.

It takes me 20 minutes just to catch up reading on this thread each night!

Love all the pics of the beautiful birds and dark eggs.
