This big boy is 7 months old and is so beautiful I had to share...Silver Cuckoo Cockeral.

I also have some in the 'bator that I can't remember how old they are (OR, what worries me more is that I can't remember how long it was between roos when I collected them, OOPS!)
and some that have been refrigerated
So far ALL of them have developed (we're on day 10) and I've only tossed ONE out that I thought smelled a little - it was dirty, probably got bacteria in it rather than being too old or too cold.

Good luck with your hatch!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck with your hatch, too. Sounds like you are off to a good start.

I intend to candle these in a few days to see if any of them are developing. If none are, I will toss the bunch, replace that rooster and then wait a couple weeks to start saving eggs. I wonder, however, if they might be dropping off on their egg laying. It might be tough to collect an inubator load. I'm committed to only hatching the very darkest ones.

If I don't get enough to justify a hatch I will have to wait till spring.

Has anyone candled these dark eggs? What day is the best? I have some pretty high-power flashlights. I'm hoping that they will do the trick.

I have gotten to the point where I only candle by the dark of the night, on about the 14th day...due to the eggs being both fragile and so dark.
I have tossed a couple good ones before by accident

So I leave them be until they are 2 weeks old or so the egg will be full of chick and no doubts made.

Very pretty flock Kristin,
I am trying very hard to NOT get distracted into the blues. I have my hands full trying to do straight BCM................LOL
Karen in Turlock

Karen, one of the great things about blue is that you can keep them with your BCM!

Can we talk about this from a begginer point of view for a moment. I have my Blue Birchen Roo (that also carries gold) that I posted about 100 pages back.

2 Blue marans hens
1 Splash Marans hen
3BCM Hens

Can I really keep them all together? I thought I was going to have to keep the BCMs out and let him only breed with the B/S. What do you get from a combo of my Blue birchen roo and BCM hens? Anything disireable?

Thanks, Chickielady. I will definitely keep that in mind. I think I will try to candle one that is not in the incubator, just to see how well I can see throught that shell. I'll wait till tonight when it's dark.

2nd is to show the back where saddle feathers should be. The 3pic of the roo (can't see in this pic) has nothing but saddle feathers.

The neck is alittle of both. some look very round same look pointed. Maybe this bird is both sexes!?
