Jan~ I understand what you are saying and yes it makes sense. I am the type of person that is happy with baby steps even if it is only one more copper feather in the hackle than mamma had. I'm willing to wait on progress if it means that the other things I am working on have remained intact with each new generation...ie....egg color, type, leg feathering etc.

Have you done this the same way??? and what are your result??? I created some really nice copper blues at one time.. It took two generations for good result and on number 3 I was over the top in color... I have been working with black the same way... I hope I chose the right roo... so far so good... I will get as far down the road as I can before I cross the boys and girls...

My next worry is narrowing the genepool and lower hatch rates... How does one narrow the field without losing babies at hatch time? that is a concern while linebreeding. If you are supposed to keep the same male and female for 8 generations... doesn't this narrow the genes a little much... (no problem on my male line as I had to throw in a brother last year due to loss)... But just a general question/concern.

No problems with getting humidity, thinking now I am using too much. I bought a King Suro bator, set it and forget it. It adjusts the humidity automatically, and barely fluctuated at all. The temp was dead on the whole time too.

Debbi:.... I am sooo jealous... I lost my best bator last year... 6 year old silkie.. My husband was careing for my chickies and filled their water bucket (taking the stairs out) and she drowned... He feels bad.. but I am bator shopping. talk about set it an forget it.. Ron Popiel would be jealous... hey that is a good name.. Hmm now to find the bator.

Ouch... spendy little buggers... I should have got one of those instead of the flashlight from surefire!!! LOL

I think you lost me Jan.....I am very foggy this morning and not following hardly anything and reading everything several times so that I don't misunderstand but I don't think it is working for me today. Sorry......I'm pooped and just can't think straight today.

Check out the King Suro 20. Looks to me very much like the Brinsea, but it is all inclusive and cheaper! Auto turner, humidity pump, and holds temps/humidity very well. Quiet too! The only thing I don't like is the darker window, hard to see pips, but with a better flashlite, that should not be a problem!

It wasn't meant as a "test". I just did not want to taint the results by giving you my suspicions.
I carefully banded them as they came out of the eggs. The last photo was of a group of black chicks. The first two photos on post # 6682 was the post with chicks from the blue hens.

That one should of had some blues in it. I think Debbi called them all blues !

It's all good... been thinking about it a while... I will ask you again later... I on the other hand keep falling asleep at 5-6 oclock... It is such a bain... I fell asleep last night on my keyboard... This time change/light thing is just slamming me around like crazy... My days and nights are mixed up.... Get some sleep.. it is the weekend... Just remind me to ask you later...

Thanks geebs! I need to go to Wally-World this weekend, will check them out!

We use a small flashlight that has about 14 small(I think LCD bulbs) bulbs and is very bright but the darker eggs are harder to check until you get closer to day 18. My DH uses them for work and gets them at Menards here.

Nope no rest for the weary....one more day. Gotta get it done. Today is the last day for me for a very long time and DH knows that.
