I think Floridians are worse. . . . They bundle up in, what, 70 degrees?

Well it has been in the seventies all week and I am still wearing shorts. When it drops below 70, the jeans come out of the back of the closet - - -burrr it is Cold then. It is a GREAT time of the year to hatch chicks. Temps in the 70's mean the little ones are running around outside without the heatlamp. I still bring them in at night and put them under the heat lamp. . .

they'reHISchickens - - Good sign. Has the pullet been checking out the nesting boxes too?

Good morning all!

Another warm, 68*, and windy morning here. All the chooks are feeling their oats today! Got my first bad stink eye and lunge from Fuglee this morning. I guess he thought I didn't get out of his run fast enough for him, and I could see him coming at me fast out of the corner of my eye!

Finally found a perk to having to walk with a cane!

He got poked pretty good with it, and then I walked after him and followed him around the run for a bit to enforce my point. Even the little ones are all fighting this morning. Fugs is chasing all of the pullets and pecking at them, trying to get them to submit. Aqua Lung at his best, but the girls ain't going for it!

I'm sure their jets will all be cooled when the temps drastically drop over the next few days.

Morning!!!!

The kiddos from GFF got their first experience with snow yesterday. It was great fun watching them, at first they were very unsure of the fluffy white things coming from the sky but then we tried to eat them out of the air. Good thing I was already sitting down watching them because I would have fallen over laughing.

I need to get a newer photo of the 2 Black Copper girls from that group that are very very promising pullets. One has a nice pinky redish comb going on already. They are huge...all of them. There are 2 that do not show any copper or mossy what so ever. There are a couple that show no copper but pretty mossy, though it looks like the mossy is starting to cover up with black. The rest of them have some copper to little copper. A few of them that have a bit more copper in the hackles also have some nice mossy going on. I think only 2 of them have dark eyes and one that has dark eyes is a very nice pullet and the biggest one and the one with the best copper. Go figure!
