Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

TWO COMMENTS - - -

1st.) Our forecast for Thanksgiving day is a High of 83 F. With that in mind, I bought some buttercrunch lettuce plants for my garden today!

2.) Thanks Bev for posting that proposed standard. That is the same one that I have. I did not see where it said what color the leg shanks and undersides of the feet were supposed to be . I thought DARK SLATE was being proposed . .. .
I was wondering about the undersides of the feet too . . .

Didn't mean to sound offensive, Dave. We do what we feel we should do. He was such a nice bird. Hope you get something close to him in your upcomers.

Never did sit in a tree. I sat up against the tree on the cold ground, and the deer always came to me when I was being the loudest, (moving, lighting a cig, unzipping coveralls, coughing, etc)

It is !!!!! Oh dear God, I'd have to kill myself if it started snowing here already. I've lived in the New Orleans area for most of my life - didn't even own a coat (except for travel). We'd get maybe a night or two out of a winter that got to 35 and then would be 80 that day. People wear shorts for Christmas. Then....I moved to this farm - 3 years ago this Christmas. It's only 3 hours North of N.O. - I'm freezing my toosh off each winter. It gets down to freezing and mostly stays there off and on from Dec. though Feb. We had a record 4 snows last year. I'm literally freezing in this old house. I can't stop shivering and I can't get warm. I've tried layers and just about everything I can think of - but, my old, skinny body is just too accustomed to tropical weather and is not handling cold at all. I really, truly do NOT know how those who have severe winters handle it. As it is, I'm lucky I work from home because I would not go to work if I had to shovel snow first or scrape the ice off my car window.

We just bought a wood stove to put in the house (even though it has 9 fireplaces - none of which we use) but we haven't gotten it installed yet. You guys are reminding me that winter is on the way. Brrrrrrr......

It will only get up to 61 here. That's COLD for this time of year.

Time to put a fire in the fireplace.
