Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

The worst shipped eggs I ever received...........first, they only came from a few hours away, second they were only rolled up in "a" paper towel. They were laying on their sides on the bottom of the box (directly on the cardboard..no buffers) and atop of the eggs was approx. 3 cups of styro worms in a 12"x12" box. I purchased what was suppose to be 15 hatching eggs (I paid per egg...no extra's) and received 3 intact eggs and the rest were filler for the garbage can. Needless to say the 3 eggs that were still in good condition did not hatch.

The best eggs I ever received were from Kathyinmo (that box was put together like it was mini Ft. Knox) and the other best shipped eggs I ever received were from Farmer Johan (Barnevelders) in Conneticut. Best hatch rate from shipped eggs were from Kathyinmo!!!!! She should pop in and post photos of how she packages eggs if she doesn't have them on her BYC pages somewhere.

When I ship eggs I line the box with a couple of layers of large bubble wrap (bottom and sides), each egg goes into their own little bubble wrap baggie, postitioned upright in the center of the box, packing peanuts fill all the gaps and extra space around the eggs to avoid any movement then a couple more layers of large bubble wrap over the top, tape the box closed and they are on their way.

Now with that said.......the all time best shipped eggs I have ever seen came from Germany (not mine and they were shipped in legally) I tried hatching them for a friend, 3 out of the six hatched (Silkies) but anyway, they were in their own little wooden box approx 16" long and approx. 2" wide and about 2.5" tall, the bottom of the little long box had a piece of foam about an inch or more thick in it with 6 perfect little egg cut outs where the eggs were nestled all comfy and cozy upright, and a thinner piece of foam with cut outs went over the top of the eggs and then pop on the little wooden lid and they were all set. That was an awesome box.....but it was probably only designed for shipping eggs internationally.

My best wrapping job I've recieved on eggs was from cjexotics (silkie eggs). Man he does a fine packing job. If you click on any of his previous auctions you can see how he wraps the eggs. I even got better packaging than it shows on the pics.

Merry Christmas Marans People!!

Now at least Blue Butt will have a friend! The other chick that started zipping is still in the same position, and I don't hold much hope for it to hatch. As hard as it is, I don't think I will help this time. Hopefully, I'll get more today!!

Will be back later on. My Son is calling me from Iraq, so want to be off the puter!

Oh, and I got TWO dark eggies from my girls yesterday!

8 is a good number of eggs to put in an incubator!, and I bet you would get nice chicks from those pretty eggs.

I am over eager to hatch, I just need to wait one more month to set eggs!
