Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Some of my parrot's food has red chili peppers in it...seeds and all he gets some of the seed based food and some pelleted based food. He's been eating those peppers for years. He loves them. He also loves cherry tomatoes just like the chickens lol. I grew these really hot purple jalepenos last year. The chickens loved them lol.

Not a very good pic. Can you take a full profile and frontal pic??? Can't tell much of anything with this pic except he has some nice coloring.

flgardengirl ~ My chooks got everything that I got from the garden last year. Tomatoes, cukes, green peppers, jalapenos, plus their regular feeds. Can see no detrement in their diet? They would stand at the fence and scream when they saw me picking tomatoes!

Would toss the cherry tomatoes in to them, and they would fight over them! The Quaker parakeets eat them too with no problem, and the jalapenos too.

It is really hard to get good pics of chickens especially with these digital cameras. My old one always had a delay and so I got a new one with more bells and whistles. It still has a delay shorter than the old one...but still.. chickens move really fast and jerky-like. I almost have to guess what they are gonna do next and click the photo button beforehand lol.

I did pretty good today by just taking my lawn chair and some ya-ya punch out to the brooder area. Just be willing to sit and watch.
BAMM, before you know it there will be a Kodak moment.

Okay... I have a serious question now. (You all take me too seriously sometimes.... the beans and flatulence I'm really not too worried about, but I hope someone got a chuckle out of the question!)

How late do you guys wait to open the door of the coop to the run for your layers? My girls spent their first day outdoors today after I physically put them out the door. I don't want them to think they should start laying their eggs out in the run.

I hope they get the idea of this soon. I just had to go out with a flashlight to catch them and put them BACK in the coop.

I surely shouldn't be the one to make remarks about pic taking of chooks, I know how hard it is!! They all move so fast, but if you can sit in there with them for awhile till they calm down, then it's a bit easier. Maybe I should sit still longer, cause my pics stink!

I think if the weather is nice again tomorrow like it was today I am going to try to get some good pictures of my roos. I truly would like some opinions on them. I'm really torn as to which ones to use for breeders.

I still have some time because I am not going to set eggs until March 1, but I wouldn't want anything to happen to my best rooster in the meantime...whichever one he is.
