If you're looking for more of a poo tray than a board, you can make super lightweight trays from coroplast. It's the corrugated plastic used for signs. I use it for lots of stuff around here - coop walls, roofs, cage trays . It's great stuff, and only $15 per 4x8 sheet at my local sign shop. The "C&C" guinea pig cages make good brooders too.

Also, I have a question about tails. Lots of Marans roosters I see have fairly long tails, but the SOP calls for a short tail (I think), and the pics I've seen of French birds show VERY short tails. So just how short should it be?

Short tails.. Some of our stock (US) has pene in it.... and it shows up in the long tail coverts... Just keep breeding the short tailed roosters and the short tailed hens and it will go away...

Yes....it is almost chick fever time for the feed stores.....but it has been chick fever time here at my house starting sporadically in October...and now it's just non-stop! Gotta luv dem babies!

Can you give us a definition of short? Perhaps in the term of approx. inches?

Geebs ~ Thanks for the Curamin tip, but the ingredients are a major NO-NO for me! Tyrosine is toxic to folks with Hashimoto's, and acts as a stimulant for the thyroid. It also increases blood flow, which in Cluster headaches is the problem, and sudden dialation of the blood vessels. These things come and go so quickly (usually) that any oral medications are useless. So far, since I've been drinking the NOS (Red Bull like drink), it has been a God send! Instead of having 40 minutes-2 hours of pain, this drink shortens the duration down to around 5-10 minutes, and greatly reduces the pain! Oxygen is also used for these, but I am very leery of having an O2 tank in my home with a wood burning furnace!

Can you say KA-BOOM!??

The Copper blue female, should be just like the black copper, with copper only on the hackle feathers. I'm not sure if there is a specific length of hackle feathers.

The tail feathers should all stop about at the same place, there should not be any "stragglers" hanging down. The tail is not supposed to be "long & flowing"
