If you're looking for more of a poo tray than a board, you can make super lightweight trays from coroplast. It's the corrugated plastic used for signs. I use it for lots of stuff around here - coop walls, roofs, cage trays . It's great stuff, and only $15 per 4x8 sheet at my local sign shop. The "C&C" guinea pig cages make good brooders too.
Also, I have a question about tails. Lots of Marans roosters I see have fairly long tails, but the SOP calls for a short tail (I think), and the pics I've seen of French birds show VERY short tails. So just how short should it be?
