Is it just the pics, or do they have yellow combs and feet??

Another packing labeling tip. DO NOT write "LIVE EMBRYOS" on the box! If you do, you can count on someone insisting on calling in an inspector to open your box! Needless to say, the eggs will not be repackaged with the same care as you did. Some folks think it's cute to add the embryo label, and it may or may not get inspected. But according to the Post Master here, she had a man who insisted on labeling his this way, and EVERY box he shipped was opened and inspected. Needless to say, he had a large volume of broken eggs and unhappy customers.

I noticed the yellow combs this time too.....last time she posted I couldn't see them.

dl~ Is it possible to get some closer up photos of each chick individually? I know what I ask trust me.....fidgety little rascals can be quite the chore to photo but it will really help us help you.

Since her sister has only been laying a couple of weeks - - - I would not worry. Each girl starts in their own sweet time. Somebody has to be the first and somebody has to be the last . .. . .

I've seen a 10 week difference in starting times in siblings. . . .

Hi Dixie!

I have some pullets that are 6 mos old right now and 2 of them started laying before they were 5 mos old and a couple more are just now starting to do something. It depends on the bird....each one will start in their own time. Hoping she starts laying for you soon.

Collected 3 eggs yesterday from my 3 girls! But, uh-oh, one was waaaay different. All the eggs lately have been 5-6 color range, and this one looked like a RIR egg!??? I do have two pullets that will be 5 months on Thursday, and that is when the first pullets started laying, but I've not noticed any comb reddage or growth in either of the two younger pullets. Could one of the older pullets just had a bad day with egg color, or does this sound like a new layer?? Such a drastic drop in color is hard to beleive, but what do I know?? Any clues??

I should add that the egg looked like a pullet bullet in that it is a long oval shape, but a large size. Thanks!

The only way you can tell at this age is to wing feather sex them. THIS MAY NOT WORK . . .. Not all marans have been breed for this trait.
This is an excellent web site with great PRACTICE pictures for learning the technique.

Good luck!

TOO EARLY FOR ME - - - I misread the original poster and thought it was 24 - DAY olds NOT 24 days old. Ignore my link and advice . . .

Do like pink says - - at this age we need close up pics. Have someone hold the little burgers so you can get the close ups without them running all over. Pink is looking for combs and waddle developement and feather developement along the back . . .
