You know my luck .... I swear I hatch more roosters than anyone. I had RIRs last year .... I hatched all roosters. Barred Rocks ..... all roosters. Honestly, I think it's my incubator.

There are a few Marans Bantams being worked on that I know about two people in Ohio and the one that just sold the eggs that were being talked about in the thread you were talking about. The egg color is no where like the large Black Copper. Don

Told my son about the dark chocolate-colored eggs just now and he is so excited. He's autistic, and for some reason, gets completely thrilled about colored eggs. So far we have lite brown, green and blue. So, if bantams don't give that dark color, maybe I should just get the standard size. Know of a black copper breeder in Colorado? I don't have an incubator so chicks would be better. Thanks.

Kathy, I am a most awesome cockerel hatcher as well! Funny....the longer I have chooks, the more I want cockerels....which means I'll start hatching way more pullets.

Go to the Penedesenca thread and look for Star2525 Victoria , she has been doing a lot of work with the Marans Bantams. Don

x 2 very nice indeed.

I have a leghorn that constantly flies out of the fenced in area. . . . then lays her egg in the egg box . .. . then flies back into the free range area. .

CRAZzzzy little egg layers. They let you know in their own little way that you are "SPECIAL" to them, but give up all hopes of picking them up and given them loving like you can the marans

To all those Marans experts out there: I just purchased some Blue and Black Marans. When a pullet lays its first few eggs does it take a bit of time to get the egg covered with the dark bloom? The first few eggs they layed are not very dark. Was wondering if they will get darker or not. I know that as they lay and until they molt they may get lighter, but what about when they first start?
