Agreed! Nice nest boxes and they too have inspired me...looks like I will be building a new nest box for the layer coop. Congrats on the new additions, they look happy in their new digs.

Susie ~ Bless your heart! I've been there, done that one too. Why are those little stinkers always born in the dark, freezing, and usually icy nights?? I had twin Nubians born one freezing icy night in January many years ago. Old barn, wind blowing, and the babies were freezing. Brought them inside and put them under a heat lamp. They were so chilled they were shaking. Threw off the sheets on the waterbed, and laid them on that. Warmed them right up! About 6am while laying on the sofa, I got poked in the face with a little wet nose, and awoke to the sound of hoof beats in the house!

Good to go kiddos, back to mama!

Good morning, folks!

Well, I'm excited to report I got my first Marans egg a couple days ago from the breeder pen! Weather here in Michigan has been horribly cold & frigid!!! But, we have a break as of today in the weather, and days are getting a bit longer, so the eggies should be arriving fast & furious in no time!

I need to post some pics of my 4-week babies - they are so doggone CUTE at this stage! Some folks think they're ugly when they're about half feathered in, but I love the looks of them! I have one boy that...dare I say....looks like he's going to have a beautiful comb! I admit it, I'm a comb snob! Hope this guy turns out to have it all goin' on!

I can't make up my mind if they are cute or ugly at that stage, maybe they are just sooo ugly, they're cute by proxy??

That seems to be the age their true personalities take shape too, so it's one of my favorite stages as well.
