Debbi~ Morning!

Count is 4 hatched, one blue, 3 splash. A blue from a BCM egg pipped, zipped 3/4 of the way and died. The darkest BCM egg in there is 1/2 way here and another BCM egg has just pipped and 4 more Blue Copper eggs still doing nada.

Thanks Debbi! I'm crossing my fingers for the darkest egg to be a black copper. I haven't hatched a Black Copper in SooooOOOOOOOOOO long.

Hey Pink...thanks for the welcome!

I'm doing pretty good...have some eggs in the incubator set to hatch Valentine's day...I just couldn't wait til spring to start hatching. I had trouble last fall with my sportsman not holding temp and had a horrible hatch, so I replaced the part and am considering this my 'test hatch' (love the lengths one will go to, to justify a hatch).
I noticed a few pages back you said you have a sportsman you've been using as well. Do you have several batches of eggs in your incubator set to hatch at different times and use the hatching tray at the bottom? My main question is if you notice any negative effects on the batches of eggs that still need incubation time when raising the humidity on the lock down days for a batch of eggs in the hatcher?
I'm trying to figure out how much of my difficulties with hatches last year was human error, faulty temp readings, or not giving them more time past day 23...

Good Luck with your hatch!

I use the dry method when I incubate and usually only raise humidity to maybe 50% and I incubate at around 44%. I don't worry too much about that little bit of a flux for a couple of days. I do have a little styro 'bator ready on the side just in case I have a scraggler or 2, I'll transfer them if need be......and I have been known to have a scraggler...one of my recent hatches ended on day 27. This is my first hatch using the sportsman and so far I love it. In a couple of weeks I can let you know about negative effects from doing both in it.

I get the sense from talking with you previously that you have that good old fashioned chicken knowledge stored up in there...I'm sure of it.

Don't be shy.......I know the years of breeding animals and birds with your dad has stuck with you.....I certainly look forward to gleaning from it.

I think.....I-I-I said....I think my first Black Copper is here......still too wet to tell for sure.

edited to say: Strike that.....after looking a little closer and longer.....it's probably a Blue.
