Does what you feed them have anything to do with how well their eggs develop? I am going to start hatching my own BCM's in about a month so I want them to be healthy chickies!

HI!

I don't think that it has to do with what I feed them, they eat very good for chickens. I think that it had to do with the number of girls that I had in with him for awhile, maybe stress???, but atleast the majority of the ones that I pulled had something develop...only her 4 eggs were clear. I have them on a strict regime of vitamins and good healthy treats, plenty of free ranging and bugs and whatever else comes happens to crawl or fly past them that isn't lucky enough to escape their bug catching skills.
I'm going to try them again.

I just revived the Marans egg color chart in the mail. I have to say I am a little disappointed in my eggs from my BC pullets. They have been laying for almost a month now. According to the scale most of the eggs are fours with one being a five.

Egg color is something very important to me. I want dark eggs from my BCs. Should I just start over with my pullets? How much can you improve egg color? My pullets look good, but I was hoping for better color. Any experienced opinions? Who is working on egg color as there biggest priority? Pink, your eggs are doing well. I will post when I candle them on day ten or later. I have to make myself wait. I try not to handle them too much.

CANDLE98 Not bad. Are they from BCs?

Wow! You guys are on a roll this morning. I wasn't sure I was going to catch up. Sounds like lots of eggs going "postal."

Chores go a lot faster now that I sold 10 RIR and gave away 8 roosters. I kinda miss those guys meeting me in the yard when I go out, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Karen I am so envious you have had several shows you could make it to. There haven't been any around here that I'm aware of. If they are very far away then I don't have enough time to make the trip due to my work schedule. Oh, well. Someday...

Mel- I was very, very, very happy to send you some of our fowl:D weather. Have fun playing in the cold/wet/snow, etc. Most of our snow has melted, but there is still some in drifts and ditches. It is so foggy here today it's hard to see your hand in front of your face. The trip home from work this morning was slow-going.

Hey Ivywoods,

There is going to be a show in Scribner, NE April 23...its a one day show, and I'd guess about 3 hours or a bit less from you. Might be too far still, but thought I'd mention it just in case.

Thanks Kim and all you vibe senders -I myself have faith in most people and that they inherently want to do the right thing and do care about others. It's the 'bad eggs' that we tend to remember more... Stil though
