Thanks to everyone for the responses and genetics on feathered shanks. It explains why I had one clean shank in my most recent hatch. I was starting to doubt myself on the identification of the eggs that had been set. The eggs that were set came out of a clean legged rooster and a nicely, but not overly so, feather shanked hen. Of the four that hatched, I have one clean leg. For the feather shanked, there are no feather showing on the toes. And, probably the best news is one of the feathered shank chics is a roo!
