I am not a carpenter by any stretch of the imagination, but I can paint, so you just leave your pink paint in Rose Valley...lol
Pink is a very nice color for a lady, and I have never met anyone who does pink as well as you do....it suits you right down to the ground...but my cows are allergic to it so I try real hard not to have too much of it here, or they won't produce....I have Herefords, and the barn needs to match the cows. I knew you would understand.

Mel, if you have Pink paint your barn red and white, I'm pretty sure she would dump a little of the red paint in the white paint and what would you get?

My Cuckoo Marans have handled our recent cold weather very well. They continued to lay...same as usual. I love my Marans.

(Man, she threatens with that sign just like my mom used to with her wooden spoon....geeezz...

My Marans girls are doing pretty good too! It's a tropical 18 degrees on my front porch right now. Bill is outside trying to wake up the valley and has been since about 330AM. The cold doesn't hold him back either.

Talking about hatching shipped eggs.

I don't usually get eggs via shipping, but this year the bug bit me, and I've gotten 2 so far wth one more on the way.

The 1st one, I decided to follow Rod Haefs tips on hatching shipped eggs.
I let them rest for, maybe 24+ hours big end up.

Then, when I put them into the incubator, I left them sitting up, but put them on the bottom so they wouldn't get turned for a week. He suggests 10 days, but I couldn't bring myself to leave them that long...I candled them yesterday, and every single egg is developing...yeah!

Now, will I get them to hatch? Donno, but have fingers crossed...thought I'd pass it along. The thought behind it is, leaving them to incubate without moving at first gives the air cells more time to re-group back into one big air cell at the top. Rod says he does this and has good hatches on shipped eggs.

Sue
ps they are Lav Orps....! That is why I could candle them at 1 week.

Sue~ That is fabulously interesting information. Thank you for posting it....going to be waiting news from you on this with your hatch. Wishing all the luck! It does make alot of sense, but 10 days, that seems like a long time. I think I would have been like you and couldn't leave them that long. Instead of 10 days, what day did you end up moving them to the turner?

Mel~

I hear peeping in the 'bator!!!!!!! Hatch day is suppose to be tomorrow.

6 Marans eggs, only one is Bill's and the others are all Davis and HOPEFULLY 3 of my first Barnevelder babies.

I also set another 20 eggs for you and will be setting more to do a hatch along with Math Ace when she gets hers. 13 eggs so far for Lisa and 12 eggs for me/us (plus whatever they lay today and tomorrow). That plus that = alot of babies!
