WOW

It was busy in here today!

Glad to hear that Geebs did not have an issue with the middle toe feathering reappearing after using a chicken with it once. . .
A couple of my recent cockerels had a middle toe feather. . . . It was strange because moms were lightly feathered and dad was normally feathered. YET, I had a couple of cockerels with middle toe feathering.

I didn't hesitate to cull them because they were from my own stock and I hatched 15 cockerels by that time

so it was an easy culling point for me.

HOWEVER, if I hatched less cockerels OR they were from a really nice looking roo that had absolutely no white hidden on his body . .... I would so have kept the cockerels with middle toe feathering issues to work with . .

SOMEBODY ASKED. . . " WHAT is the hardest to fix? " - - - Don and I will vouch for the WHITE FEATHER or WHITE at the base of the hackel feathers in the roos being the ABSOLUTE worse thing to fix . .. ..

I know it's hard they show up kinda late to the party just when you're thinking that rooster might make it....and you think you see white and after you pick him up you know that you have it....since I had very few from that person they are all gone for other issues besides the white tipping I had that in a strain of Partridge Rocks couldn't get rid of it either......

Hi, I have a French copper maran rooster, he is beautiful and surprisingly kind. I have some chicks about a week old and while I went away my partner looked after them all. However he decided it would be easier to chuck the chicks with the rest of the flock!!! Shock horror when I got back, but it turns out my maran rooster stayed with the tiny chicks for 2 days finding food for them and basically looking after them! Some of the other hens tried pecking them and being nasty with them, the maran rooster would chase them off and protect them!! I would never have thought a roo could be so kind and gentle.. The chicks now have a young pullet (14 weeks old) looking after them now strange enough, acts like a mother already spreading her wings for the chicks to get underneath for warmth! Chickens never cease to amaze me :-)

wow... watch them for any signs of Cocci.. dropped wings... trilling sound... puffed up... This goes for the adults as well... lethargic...not eating etc.. Keep a good vigil for a couple weeks... That wasn't a very smart thing to do... Nice chickens for making the best of it...

Lucky you... Give that roo a cookie!!!

haha....I wish I had something for ya...but I seem to have some temperamental BCM pullets that just don't want to give up their lovely dark eggs. They are hating this cold wet weather we've been having up here. Its driving me nuts. My brother's family is from Houma by the way.

Okay, but... with the white feathers.. they have some time to shed them right?.. I think I posted pictures of my two 7 weekers.. and you can clearly see white..
