Morning all I will try and post some picts of that rusty brown over blue chick it's a he I think and of course all those pullets will be let to grow out and I'm hoping that they lay dark eggs I can sell them for egg layers that way...but the eggs were not that dark....they are going to be beautiful even if they have some major faults somebody will want them for their backyard. I'm hatching Blue Coppers,Golden Cuckoos and Delawares this morning maybe a turkey or 2 but I think the temp in that incubator was a little low so they might take an extra day.

Hi Everyone. I'm looking for Blue Copper hatching eggs. Any leads are appreciated. Thanks!

I have some nice dark laying blue coppers. I will stop hatching next week, so will have some for sale.

I like the birds with an inverted "V". It looks less like a brahma that way... Just me... It has a clean tight appearance that way... I see the "u" as changing the look of the topline to be less tight than I personally like... But this is just me...

Coverts is a general term meaning covers... Wing coverts.. tail coverts, ear coverts... It just means covers... It is a term used for all avian not just chickens.. Use what term you like... Coverts is interchangeable to tufts... When I think of tufts I think of tufted birds like the aracauna so I use the term Covert.... Tomato, Tomaaaato...

We survived the trip to the desert unscathed..now for 3 weeks of quarantine: There is a mutated gene of EHV 1 than is killing horses... We didn't bring home any additional medals but we competed well and fell about the top half of the group... We had a fairly clean run and the kids did their best... We are happy with that!!!

Don thanks for the info on coloring- I really was being earnest!
I'm a new poster but I really DO want the real info -pretty or not. Just trying my best to learn
Anyone want to be my mentor?

The boy with the darkish eyes - his ear tufts arent the color if his hackles - not as orange.
More like rusty brownish copper- not black. Does that make sense??

You're right -The other boy does have a sort of two- toned hackle.
Copper over the head and neck with a lighter layer at the very end if the hackle (hackle not hackle feathers)
I don't think it is blonde or straw though and the newest feather coming in by his eyes and beak are a deeper color
I'm thinking this is where you guys say you really need a pic!!

His ear tufts are the same rusty brownish copper.
Have to check beak a d leg color when I get home. I think his shanks are pretty dark- dark as my girls.
This guy was pecked pretty badly before I got him and was naked along his back, tail, and the feathers off hislegs.
He's grown everything back now, except his tail isn't finished.

Which leads me to another question:
The legs are decently feathered, but not all the way to the tip of the toe.
The feathers, however, are a lighter black and on the fluffy side.
His under fluff and butt are black, not grey.

So- will he eventually grow in black, shiny feathers or us this what he will have for his shank feathering??
AND how much of a fault is that??

Marquisella....Nice offer!!! (the roosters from dark eggs)... Can't wait to see what they look like...

They are still too young to tell anything yet, except that they are boys....I think I hatched out abou 15, and 2/3 of them are boys.
