my ears are burning , i have 4 broody silkie now and now a broody wheaten hen from buddy henery stock (smaller roos in that line i think )
the trouble i have with silkiee is the roosters and hens are all nasty , they bite kick and scratch. lucky iv never had a mean marans but slikiee are another story

No, Silkies would be much cheaper and more practical than what I really want. Been toying with the idea of getting back into my Chinese Crested dogs, but man! Prices sure have gone through the roof with them! There's also the problem that my Shepherds would EAT THEM!!!

I could get the "fluff" without the "ruff"

A Showgirl, male and female both carry the name, is a Silkie crossed with a Naked Necked Turken. They are quite cute I think!

There are threads about them on BYC where you can see pics.

Sorry to hear your Silkies are snots! I am now the proud? owner of a batch of 8+ Silkie eggs due here by the end of the week. If these turn out to be snots, so be it! Can't be any worse than the 2 snot roos I have now...and a whole bunch smaller!

Now, I have 3 weeks to build a small coop and pen...

Oh and just so ya'll know......I've had a Silkie and I loved him! I just wasn't going to keep a coop open for him anymore....I needed the space, but I did hatch some eggs out before he was rehomed. I found out I don't like Silkies crossed with bantam Easter Eggers.

Our new little flock (our chicks are 2 1/2 months old) is made up of several breeds, cochins, a blue laced red wyandotte, a barnevelder, an olive egger, speckled sussex, and 2 very beautiful and beloved marans, one blue and one black. Lily is our black and she is very sweet....Lilac is also very sweet...and very silly! All our chickens are silly and I am not sure they all know they are chickens! LOL Just wanted to share some pictures I just took the other day.

Here is a funny picture of Lilac and my 11 year old laying on the deck in the sun!!! LOL
