Hi!
Cuckoo males are not colored the same as the females, from what you are describing it sounds as though you have a male.

My broody Marans hens have surpassed my pathetic attempts at hatching

So far 15 chicks have hatched out. We lost a couple because one hen pecked the babies as the mice had gotten into the nest and I'm sure she was pecking at the mice. Several blues and the rest black coppers. There are about another 12 eggs to go.

If any one has pictures to go with this it would help me understand....

Thank you Kathy! That did help..... The only time I have ever seen a pinched tail is in the V shape.... Is it possible to be pinched and U shape ? ?

How about "tight"? How is that different from PINCH ? ?

Nice examples Kathy! Lisa, I believe the "V" and "U" shapes are what you see when you look at the bird from the rear, not the side as Kathy pictured. It would be very closed and held tightly together if it was pinched, but look more like an inverted V or U when presenting as correct. That was my understanding when Don explained it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

So far I'm not seeing anything else moving, but I'll give it some more time. That said, I have some future, potential broodies on the way!! YES, I did it! I bought some Silkie eggs!

Well Debbi, here at my place, it's you, me, my chickens and so many young grasshoppers that my birds are getting full. LOL

I have 14 eggies from Wynette in the bator, 7 BCM & 7 OE.........this morning I have 1 BCM pipping.

Their true hatch date is tomorrow, but with my bator they usually start popping out 12 to 24 hours early.

I've been running around here this morning attempting to make sure my 7 week old chicks' grow out pen is WELL ventilated. It is supposed to be well over 100 here today - and muggy. (I actually heard one of them crowing this morning from the house. They are growing up!)
