Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I do think there is something to the red thing. I had a BC roo who never attacked, but he would chase after me when I carried their water container with the red base. I thought it was just the water container. Never thought of the red base.

Well, come to think of it, they make the chick feeders/waterers with the red bases to attract them, yellow too. The only time Clyde ever pecked me, and it was only one swift peck in the back of my knee, was when I wore a black knee brace into the run. I spun around thinking it was Pip, and said "Clyyyyde!". That was the end of it, but I won't push my luck and wear it in there again either!

I had an EE roo that would meet me in the driveway whenever I was wearing my "going to town" coat. It was brown but he didn't like it. Barn clothes, he was used to. But those city clothes simply didn't work for him.

Well, maybe after the weather cools off, I'll dress up in my Carhart coveralls, put on a full face shield helmet, and wrap myself in red vet wrap, and walk into the run! I'll try to get my friend with her cam corder to show the results. Then we can do yellow wrap, then blue, then purple, pink, etc. Only thing that would get in the way would be the question, "are they going after the color, or the weirdo in the getup??"

All my chickens like to peck white or gray socks

They've put holes in almost all of the socks I've worn to go see them throughout the day.
And before I forget...I fed my Marans pullet a small piece of quiche, and she loved it.

I purchased eggs from a fellow BYCer a while back...EGGcited to say I got my 1st BCM egg this week and 2 more the last 2 days. They are small but I am impressed with the color already!!

How long before they usually start getting a little darker? I am all new to Marans and I have to say I am loving the color of these eggs:weee
