Pink-Your daughter likes to do woodworking? AWESOME! I love to do woodworking, too. I've never had any kind of training or mentoring or anything, so most of mine is fairly primitive (nestboxes, planters, etc. I have made a few things that were good enough to pass as furniture, but not much.

My next project is an antique redwood incubator restoration. This thing is big! It's about 60" high, 48" deep and 22 inches wide. The first thing I built is a dolly to move it around on. I probably won't do much with it until this winter.

Tailgate sawhorses? Actually anything about "so high" will work for a redneck sawhorse. Dog kennels work okay. Kinda tippy, though. Once in a while a wire chicken cage will work.

I have a question: if you made a wooden incubator, would you seal the inside with a clear coating or stain it or anything? Or could you use something like linseed oil?
Would the fumes be bad for the eggs? Seems like it would need something due to the humidity even if it was a hard wood...

I would think with any other kind of wood that is not water or humidity resistant you would have to put some kind of sealer on it. I've seen old incubators that were painted, and then of course the newer ones are a sealed material. GQF's are some kind of composite or something, and it has an almost "formica like" surface. Maybe it's just paint, I don't know.

Best of luck on both of your hatches! I've got some BCM's in the incubator right now, due to go into lockdown in a few days. I've decided that will be my last for this spring/summer, unless I have a very poor hatch this time. I have fairly high hopes for this hatch. It will be the first hatch in my old (but new to me) GQF without any power failures so far. Let's hope it stays that way for a few more days. Then I have guinea eggs to hatch one week after that. I love my GQF's!

I'm with you there Ivy. I just started hatching. I'm borrowing units from several friends. I've got an LG, GFQ HBG 1588 x 2, and a Brinsea Eco 20. I have to say so far the GFQ is my fav
