Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

My peeps are popping this morning! Glad I had to come to work so I can't flatten my nose on the glass

I have Blue and Black Coppers some BBS and Goldens. Hoping for a good hatch had about 6 or 8 out and a ton of pips so we will see when I get home

Best photos I could get of Lil' Bill this morning....he was waiting to make a mad dash for the open gate to the grass commons area, Bill and the rest of the girls were already out and boy howdy he was ancy to join them.

Here he is out of the coop yard and running away from me but it shows his copper color in the sun.

Love him!! Love the comb!!! Does he have feathered shanks/toes?? I've got 2 Bill boys, one black, one blue. Both have decent combs, but clean shanks

Wish I could trade combs of one of them with JR's.

As for the wooden bators, could you line them with plexi-glass? Seal all the joints where the glass meets on the inside with silicone, and screws where it would be screwed onto the wood? Should be easy to clean then, but talk about one heavy unit!

I believe it would still condensate between the plexi and the wood...some sort of moisture barrier would need to be put in between them even with the joints sealed, and the silicone used would need to have microban or equivilant mold and mildew inhibitor in it. Each screw would need to be sealed or one with a rubber gasket would work too. The screws in my Sportsman have a little rust on them from the humidity, now that it is not running 24/7 I purchased new stainless steel screws for the inside of it. If someone did make one with the plexi on the inside it wouldn't be too much heavier than a Sportsman if a person only used 1/4" plexi. AND FOR SURE with the plexi it would be heck of easy to clean.

Thank you. I'm in love with him and yes he has feathered shanks, nicely feathered, not too much and not too little. His eye color is GORGEOUS just like Bill's. I'm very glad that I kept him. I wish that I could have got him standing in a better position for a picture but he was too excited to go out and play, once out he wouldn't stand still. This is going to be my main man for this falls breeding pen....can't wait to see what he throws.
