Funny! I love it when they think they can't walk across something. I've had some that were scared of the grass..cracks me up.

Sherman sounds like he is turning into quite a good rooster.

So ya'll remember who Dale is don'tcha? Well....me thinks Dale is going to be making a short trip to the freezer.
sad.png

I don't know what is going on around here, but I am very tired of being flogged and partially attacked by roosters that have momentary lapses of sanity, in a couple of instances, full on attacked with bruises left on the backs of my legs.

It's not jivin' with me.
Last night Dale decided to get froggy....he was so froggy he was trying to attack me through the fence. Not once.....not twice......not three times, but four times. BAD DALE!!!!!! After his show of stupidity I walked into the coop run and caught him...now mind you, normally he stands completely still because he knows if I come in his yard he is going to be picked up....not last night, he was runnin' scared. When I caught him and he was settled down..well I thought he had settled down....he pecked me.
somad.gif
somad.gif
Pecked my hand first, then started pecking me where ever he could. I wonder what restrained me from making his neck a little longer for those hard to reach areas?
hmm.png

Hung him upside down for a spell and then put him back in the same position up under my arm where he remained while I finished chores, the whole time he was calm. When I put him back in his pen he acted as though nothing had happened.
This morning I go to let him and his girls out onto the grass and he flogs the gate as I open it and then goes after my boots. DUMB!

Happy Father's Day to all you dads out there. I am making my dh breakfast empanadas this morning

Pink I have a roo who is gonna go to the freezer soon for the same thing. He is so nasty I have bruises and cuts on the back of one leg. He gets me on the way out of the pen. I have to walk backwards lol. He always gets the same leg too grrr.

Lisa, so not fair. I want a splash GIRL. I have 4 splash males so far and NO GIRLS lol.

BIG STORMS last night!

No damage that I can see this morning, but it was a long night for sure. Power went out for 3 1/2 hours. Of course it did, I have eggs in the bator!!
somad.gif
Hopefully, it won't be a problem, the temps in the bator only got down to 83 and I had closed the vent so the humidity would hold. Humidity actually rose to 50%, so keep your fingers crossed for me. They say Silkie eggs are very sensitive, I sure hope this didn't do them in.

More thundering coming in later.

Pink ~ I so know how you feel!! You weren't wearing red or orange, were you? I have a leaf rake I leave by the gate, you know, the springy kind, not the rock rake type. I just put it in front of me in the mornings when letting them out, just in case anyone gets froggy. I have two I have to watch, Pip of course, and Blue Butt. BB is still limping so he's not so quick these days, but Pip is! I wonder if it has anything to do with radioactive fallout from Japan?? All these roos going crazy? Even the two Bill boys here are fighting, and I can almost bet when Myron gets a tad older, he will try my patience too. My two dark boys still can't be in the same vicinity, so one gets to free range one or two days, while the other stays in the run. Then change them out the next day...can you say, PIA???
roll.png
I've yet to have one of the roos really get me yet, for being so old and crippled, I guess I'm still pretty quick when it comes to saving my old hide!

I've heard alot of people say they don't get many splash girls...I don't know why, but this year I have quite a few of them...definitely more than cockerels. At least it will give me some to pick from I suppose haha

I'm heading into a more relaxing three days or so of work, so I will once again try to fit in pics of my birchens and my lavender silver sussex for you Lynette. This has been a rather frustrating and non stop last couple of months. I might slip in some other breed photos for you too haha.

All these mean roos! I'll send you all Sherman sons when I have more than I want to eat! He has never looked at me mean. He takes great care of his ladies (unlike my Hamburg roo) is easy to herd and knows his name. He even runs up to me! I hold him often and now when I pick him up I don't have to restrain him for inspections. I

my Shermie!

He isn't one to be petted but he is so much better than I hoped for. And on top of being a model citizen, he's a very handsome guy as well.

Happy fathers day to any of the other dads out there.
Odd question: I have a pullet who lays the nicest dark eggs. She started at 17 weeks, and her eggs have slowly been getting darker. She lays almost every day, like 7 out of 8 days. But I'd swear that TWICE she's layed 2 eggs in less than 24 hours. Once there was a big double yolker next to her little pullet egg - same dark shiny color that I know is hers. Then today, there were twins sitting there, and I know I pulled an egg of hers last night as well. I can't imagine that one of my wheaten pullets is laying eggs identical to hers, suddenly and randomly. They're still pretty small - probably 45 grams or so, so it's conceivable that she could produce two, since she's a good sized girl already. Just curious if anyone else has seen this. Maybe it's normal and I just haven't read much about it. All I've seen on BYC was an Araucana that laid 2 sometimes 3 eggs a day for awhile.

Go ahead and post all the pic you want lol. I know you have so many lovelies, I'd love to see anything you wanna put up

Not fair you have lots of splash girls too? Whaaa I usually get lots of hens in blue and blk coppers but none splash. I wonder why? I have some blue girls so light they just almost make splash but not quite. Still more blue than whitish. I guess I will breed one of those to a splash male and see what happens.

VC I hope you are having a great Father's Day!! I have a leghorn that lays 2 eggs a day every once in a while. I know its her because she lays the only large white egg in that group. I have a little phx hen that lays a small white egg but hers are accounted for so it has to be the leghorn's. I haven't had any marans doing that even though some are very good layers. Lucky you

momdogz: Cute little silver cuckoo you have there. How many do you have and where did you get yours?

Hi VC, Happy Father's Day!

I had that happen once, though at the time, I just wrote it off to my being forgetful or senile!
lol.png
I only have 4 laying pullets now since one ran off and got, well hopefully she ran off with a wild turkey?...I digress, my girls all lay different types of eggs, so I can usually tell them apart. Some are huge, some are very speckled, one lays a weird shaped egg, and one's is a lighter but darkly speckled egg. So one day I found a nice speckled egg in the morning, and that evening there was another one! She even lays in the same nest box all the time, so now I think maybe I'm not crazy and she did lay twice in one day! How cool is that?? Love those double-yolkers too!!
