I hope it cools down for all of us soon. Its been miserable for most of the last two weeks here with the heat index hitting well over 110 several times. So far I've only lost one bird to the heat, but of course it always has to be a favorite. I'm still completely bummed about it.

eeeekkkk! Tree Rats. No thanks! but if you have birds that go after them then maybe that's not so terrible.... I really dislike rodents of any kind!

alrighty here you go Debbi....I've got 4 babers now! They are so teensy tiny...not much bigger than my Marans chicks when they hatch out but they already stand pretty upright....so that's a good sign. Have 5 eggs left, so we'll see if others want to join the world. They were eggs laid over the course of a week and a half...so it may be a few days before everyone hatches that's going to.

Oh and thanks for the sympathy...I really, really was bummed most of yesterday. We seem to be getting a break in the weather with 92 as the high. I never in my life would have ever thought I would think 92 felt comfortable, but after all those extreme temps...it really does feel nice. I'm just hoping this will give my birds a chance to relax a bit.

Those are the cutest ducklings. What kind are they? I had 11 muscovy babies hatch out on Easter morning. They were so cute. Only 2 of them are females LOL!!! They are all huge now. I think dh is gonna whack all the males except one. Muscovy meat is supposed to be really good but I haven't tried it yet. We have been eating the huge eggs and they are really great, especially in baking.

heehee...thanks. They are chocolate runner ducks. I'm working on finding myself some cumberland blue indian runners...maybe even some blacks...I'd like a mix of colors in a small flock at some point.

I haven't used the duck eggs in baking yet, but am excited to try. The chocolate runner hen didnt lay until it started really heating up, then bam...went broody right away...so I'm hoping to use some once she goes to a regular laying schedule. Do you adjust the recipe at all since the eggs are different/richer?

Oh..and I've posted a bunch of pics through the last few days...I think you saw up to the splash boys. There is another couple photos of a different blue girl and a post with a few photos of some of my oldest chicks growing out right now. One of them is a blue birchen boy close up just for you!

those wee muscovies are pretty cute too! was it you that had the lavender muscovy? I can't remember now who it was that had one. I would be tempted to have a couple of those perhaps some day...hahaha

haha...one of my brother's lives in Louisiana and has told me about tree rats. I hate them. Squirrels - I can deal with those.
