This really stinks!

Went out with my camera this morning to get some chic pics. Hmm, got distracted by a growl and my dog carrying on...

Nightey night Mr. Coon...Can't seem to catch the Woodchuck, but guess I'll keep the trap set for more of these guys. They can do so much more harm to my flock than the woodchuck!

Birds & Eggs :

We are new to Marans and really liked the Birchens... I thought I would post some pictures of one of the pairs we have. We hatched these out and I was looking for other Birchens to compare them to...not an easy feat. Any input on our birds would be appreciated. Still too young to lay, so I am not sure of egg color yet.

I think that you should box them up and send them to me.....

Really love their nice long backs, they are going to be nice birds I believe. Mind if I asked where you accquired them?

Debbi~ He's not as happy as you are that you caught him.

Glad you got him though, man they can cause some damage in the coops. I have never experienced coons but my neighbor did and geesh what a mess.

x2 Nice birchen pair. How is the egg color? Could I just borrow them for a few days during the fall? LOLOLOL Maybe my blue birchen pullet will be ready to lay by then haha.

Pink those were real purty eggs you posted a few pages back!!!

Debbie that is scary! Glad you caught the guy. Hope he doesn't have a bunch of friends. Something has been getting the eggs of my little freeranging blue and black copper pullets that just started to lay. They found a bale of hay in the carport and made a little nest and I found 4 nice dark little eggs in there. Then I found some eggs a little ways away on the ground that had been eaten. I didn't even know they had started laying yet although I knew it should be soon because they were squatting.

I swear if I don't lock birds up at night around here even once. Something will eat them. A little blue copper male got left out because he ran off into the woods and I couldn't catch him when it was almost dark. I kept chasing him and he was being a little terd and kept running off so I figured oh well, he can just stay out then. That was 3 days ago, he is totally gone!

Yes, everyone gets locked up here at night! Evidently, I need to get my electric fence running again, the battery died in the solar charger. If there is one around, you can bet there are more. This is just this year's baby I would guess, so he's bound to have some curious brothers and sisters. Funny thing is, there was NO bait in the trap! Curiousity killed the coon...

I hope they turn out nice, they already have IMO. We got hatching eggs from a gal in FL. Can't remember the wesite but I know they raised Arabian horses.

They haven't started laying yet so not sure on egg color. I have 10 hens and two roos (the other looks identical to the one pictured).....waiting on those hens to lay…should be any day now.

I've been lucky here so far, and the coop/run was built like Ft. Knox too, so that helps! Re-set the trap tonight after I got the chickens up. Threw some radishes in there that might attract the woodchuck, but they usually come out in the heat of the day. That one huge female was out there eating the cockleburr plants today at about 3pm. Sun scorching, temp in the shade was 103*. So the old saying should say; "mad dogs, Englishmen, and Woodchucks!
